Going to Market
Exeter Village Market is a country market in one of the most beautiful settings in the Southern Highlands. Exeter Village Hall was built as a School of Arts in 1913. It has an art deco interior and has recently been renovated, so it's looking fabulous. The Hall adjoins the oval with its white picket fence and old, exotic trees. A children's playground is on the northern boundary next to the tennis courts and kiosk.
The oval surrounds provide plenty of parking for stallholders and visitors. Regular sporting events, including cricket and soccer, take place on the oval.
We encourage all stallholders to make their stall as attractive and welcoming as possible. May we suggest you have enough printed cards, flyers or brochures to promote your business
Establishing a following at a new market can take time, please don't expect to sell out or be a huge hit on your first try. Be patient.
Sorry, there is no ATM in Exeter, which makes it difficult for visitors to access cash for impulse buys and for you to top up with cash. Stallholders selling bigger ticket items may need to bring a portable EFTPOS machine which connects to a mobile phone.
Terms & Conditions
We want to stock the market with a vibrant community of producers and makers. We're interested in quality produce of all kinds - fruit and veg, flowers, plants, bread, baked goods, honey, olive oil, jams, condiments as well as handcrafted goods, fashion and great design. Our only stipulation is that you, who come to the market and sell it, are involved in the production of your goods or produce. If you're buying mass produced stock through a wholesaler it won't be suitable for Exeter.
Applying for a Stall
All stallholders must be pre-approved by submitting an application form to us. All applications will be acknowledged, and approved stall holders will receive a start-date confirmation email back from us. An invoice will only be sent to you, by email, once you are approved. Approval depends on a number of factors and cannot be guaranteed.
There are inside and outside stalls. Inside stalls come with a 1.8m folding table and a chair, and are arranged to maximise space inside while also allowing a good flow of visitors.
Please note: there are currently no inside spaces available. But outside is where the vibe is!
Outside stalls, which include the verandah, are a 3m x 3m space and byo gazebo or umbrella, table and whatever you need to dress it up. Some double sites are also available outside. We can only offer a limited number of powered sites by arrangement.
We will try to accommodate all reasonable location requests but the final decision is ours in the interests of the market as a whole.
See Casual stall information here.
Payment of Stall Fees
Once approved as a permanent or casual stallholder, fees will need to be paid by direct deposit into our nominated bank account, unless cash payment has been approved. An invoice will be emailed to the email address you provide on your application form. All stallholders need to book in and pay the stall fee each month at least 10 days prior to the Market date if paying by bank deposit. Cash payments are to be made one month in advance, on market day. Your booking will not be confirmed until the stall fee is received by the organiser.
The market will operate in all but extreme weather conditions. For instance, Exeter is subject to mist and winter wind. We're used to it. If you have an outside stall you will need to ensure you have a gazebo or cover that will withstand the wind and not leak. This is the Highlands, we do have weather. If you have to cancel you must notify us by 4pm on the Wednesday afternoon before market day. If you do so we will carry over your payment for that month to the next. If not, your payment is not refundable.
This is a strict policy so if you become a permanent stallholder please note it is a monthly commitment to trade in all weathers. If any stallholder, permanent or casual, cancels after 4pm on the Wednesday before the market they will forfeit the stall fee for that month. We don't want that to happen so if you have a problem please call Elisabeth on 0405 142 782
Exeter has 12 markets a year and permanent stallholders are expected to attend each market. The benefits of being permanent is a preferred stall position and a featured listing on the Market website.
Set Up & Stall Holder Parking
Set up is from 7am and we open at 9am. But, as you know, folk begin to wander around earlier. We ask everyone to be set up by 8.30am at the latest.
All vehicles need to be removed from the vicinity of the market site by 8.30am. Please park in the area near the tennis court or down by the oval fence, at least 50m from the stalls to allow our visitors easy access and parking - we don't want to have to ask you to remove your car. For the safety of everyone no stallholder vehicles are to enter the stall area after 8:15 am and before 2pm.
Stallholders are responsible for bringing and removing everything they need for their stall that is not provided by the venue. Please also take all your rubbish with you.
We trade from 9am to 2pm. All stallholders need to commit to being at the market until 2pm.
Product & Public Liability Insurance and Risk Assessment
Adequate, current insurance is mandatory. Wingecarribee Shire Council insists on $20m public liability insurance for all stallholders. Please send a certificate of currency with your application. You should do your own research and find the best cover and pricing for yourself but we do know that Traders Voice give a fair price for this insurance.
There are no exceptions to the insurance requirement: you must have your own current insurance. If you are a fast food or cafe-style seller you must also have a Food Safety Services certificate.
As the Market venue owners, Wingecarribee Shire Council requires all stallholders to complete a risk assessment. On approval of your application you will be given a risk assessment form. We can help you fill that in.
